“Quicksand,” directed by Andres Beltran and written by Matt Pitts, follows a couple on the verge of divorce who travel to South America. The wife, a healthcare professional and doctor (Carolina Gaitán), returns to her home country to deliver a lecture at a conference, while her husband (Allan Hawco) experiences Bogotá for the first time. However, the film’s thrilling prologue in the rainforest lacks impact and sets the tone for missed opportunities. As the couple’s failing marriage unfolds, they find themselves trapped in the rainforest, forced to confront their grievances and rediscover their connection. The concept of mutual stasis in crisis has potential, but the film falls short due to trite writing, over-directed scenes, and missed emotional depth.
