“Muzzle,” directed by John Stalberg Jr., introduces Jake Rosser, a disgraced LAPD officer played by Aaron Eckhart. The film attempts to blend thriller elements with a character study, delving into Jake’s life as a combat veteran with PTSD. Following the death of his K-9 companion, Ace, Jake embarks on a quest that uncovers an underworld of shady characters, trafficked dogs, and fentanyl production fronts. While the premise is intriguing, the movie struggles to explore its themes meaningfully. Jake’s character feels one-dimensional, and the love interest subplot lacks substance. Despite moments of suspense and touching scenes between Jake and his new canine partner, Socks, the overall narrative fails to fully commit to Jake’s emotional journey.
