Vin Diesel returns to put the most numerous variations in the show’s title, “I Am Groot,” as possible. And there might be an appearance or two to be expected for the viewers (this is a Marvel show at the end of the day). The main question is, can a youngster with the weakest vocabulary in the MCU endure a whole half an hour of antics, and could “I am Groot” only be an all-joke series?
Each short starts with the typical raunchy Marvel Studios fanfare… Then fast-forward begins when Groot emerges from the shadows and is pushed in front of the camera. The tone of the entire afdah to series: forget the knowledge you have about Marvel and forget about it because Groot is going to Groot. The opening scene of the first short, “Groot’s first Steps,” shows the little boy waking from his sin following his rebirth at the close of the initial Guardians film.
Groot discovers new life forms on an alien planet and investigates an intruder who has a foothold on the ship, works on making it, and then treats himself to a relaxing day. And then it’s complete chaos. It’s hard to imagine that a talking and walking tree could do so much destruction, but it really could. This is because the thing that Baby Groot lacks in height, He more than can make up for in attitude.
I Am Groot brings back some old-school Looney Tunes chaos in the most effective way. Due to Groot’s monosyllabic style, the writer, director, and EP Kirsten Lepore ( Adventure Time) goes all the way to the beginning of the animation and employs various effective storytelling techniques. I’d guess that they don’t produce movies like this anymore, but they do.
